Grading Policies
|
|
In English AIS, students are evaluated on their progress and productivity with the use of letter grades (āPā for Pass; āFā for Fail). Parents are kept informed through weekly updates via the Parent Portal and through five-week progress reports, ten-week report cards and reports at the end of each semester. Students enrolled in English AIS are not necessarily kept in AIS the entire year, as it depends on the individual's growth in reading and writing, as measured by formal and informal assessments. English AIS students who demonstrate proficiency in reading and writing can be dropped from the program and enrolled in a learning lab (study hall). The decision to release a student from AIS is made by the student's English AIS teacher and English teacher. N.Y.S. education policy does not allow course credit (toward graduation) to be awarded for participation in any AIS class (whether it is English, math, or any other content area); however, most AIS students find the classes to be extremely helpful in ensuring academic success.
