1st Grade General Music Ohio Elementary Mr. Shaun Cunningham Welcome to 1st Grade General Music here at Ohio Elementary School. This year your student will continue their development of basic musicianship skills and performance skills. Students will be demonstrating their skills in the music in our schools concert in March as well as other school wide celebrations. What we will be doing during class, Performers and Audience - Every couple classes students will be performing as individuals and groups to their classmates and myself. Students will review and perfect what is expected of performers and audience members during a performance. As well as what is expected of individuals when working in a group. The Beat - Students will be regularly moving and identifying the beat in music and how it stays the same and sometimes changes. Loud, Soft, Fast and Slow - Students will be learning how to identify and create sounds of different volume and speed. Kodaly Hand Signs(Do, Re, Mi...) – We will be reviewing how to form the hand signs and sing the notes of the Major scale based on the Kodaly singing method. We will also start work on singing intervals (Pitches separated by more then one step on the Major scale) By the end of the year students should be able to sing the scale and intervals with correct words and symbols with the help of an accompanying instrument Classroom Songs - We will be learning how to sing traditional childrens songs. Students will be reading and speaking the text, examining the meaning of the words, practicing making the sounds of the words clearly as well as performing these songs for classmates, teachers, family and friends at the march concert. Games and Books - Throughout the school year we will be reading and listening to different books about performing, singing, playing instruments, enjoying music and examining artworks that have been paired with classical music.

- 1st Grade Music in our Schools Month Concert March 1st 6:00 pm in the gymnasium. - Flag Day Ceremony: School wide ceremony, June 14th 8:40 am
