6thGrade General Music H.T. Wiley Intermediate School Mr. Shaun Cunningham Welcome to H.T. Wiley Intermediate School. This year in general music your student will be polishing their K – 5 general music knowledge and skills in order to become the best music readers and performers for our Band and Choir programs. In order to better manage our activities and information for the year I would like your student to have the following materials for class. Materials a.) 1 three ring binder or folder What we will be reading and using during class, Rhythm Reader– Learn and review information about the different symbols used to create the rhythms of all music! Sight Singing – Use the Kodaly hand signs (Do, Re, Mi…) to sing written music as it moves up and down on the staff. Music Ace – an interactive computer program to help review and cover the musical concepts introduced in class. Music Express – A monthly kids magazine full of pop, traditional and ethnic music, as well as articles, activities and games. This will help us understand what different types of music sound like and where some of them come from. Silver Burdett, “Making Music”– an anthology of music geared towards the 6thgrade performer as well as a resource for music activities and information. Dictation – We will be learning how to write down basic melodies onto staff paper as I play them on the piano. I am looking forward to an exciting year and helping your student become a better music reader. Sincerely, Shaun Cunningham scunningham@watertowncsd.org
