Degrees and Certifications:
Hello! My name is Mrs. Briggs and I'm a fourth grade teacher at Ohio Street Elementary. This is my thirteenth year teaching. I graduated from SUNY Potsdam with a Masters Degree in Elementary Education, and I'm so proud to be teaching in the very school I went to!
Parents, you are the FIRST teachers of your children. The time you spend with them is invaluable. While we have a "No Homework" policy here at Ohio, we do suggest that students spend ten minutes each evening studying their basic math facts (multiplication and division up to 12) and ten minutes reading. These are skills that are taught and reinforced in the classroom, but as you know, they are necessary for everything we do in life as well. So, the next time you're in the grocery store, ask your child to help you add up the items in your basket, or when you're baking those goodies for your family, ask your son/daughter to read the directions to you. It's great bonding time and the kids have no idea they're learning!
Each student in our school will receive a planner. This is the PRIMARY SOURCE of communication between home and school. Each day, students will be asked to write something in their planners (ex. "Read 20 minutes" or "ELA Test tomorrow). This is actually their ticket out the door for dismissal. I ask that you take a moment each night to look through the planner, then sign a FULL SIGNATURE at the bottom of that day. I will pick a few students each day to write notes in as well, so you have an idea how your child is doing. Other ways to reach me are through email (firstname.lastname@example.org - fastest way) or you may call school at 315-785-3755 and I will return the call as soon as I can. COMMUNICATION between you and me is essential for your child's well-being and academic success.
I look forward to working with you and your child this year as we explore Science through demonstrations, Math through a multitude of "tools," and so much more! This is going to be a great year!!!
