Early Literacy Events @ Flower Library:

Toddler Paint (select Mondays @ 10:30am – 11:30am; for ages 1 to 4; location: Children’s Room): Creativity is one of the most important skills you can help develop in your child. With this in mind, join us for a class that is designed to expose children to the art experience through a variety of different painting projects. We will need the help of each participant’s caregiver! Event dates include:

8/6 – Marshmallow Painting

8/20 – Bingo Dauber Butterflies

Farmer’s Market Story Time (Wednesdays @ 10:30am – 11:00am; for all ages; location: outside on the lawn in front of City Hall): Sit on the lawn and enjoy some stories, rhymes, and songs! This program will be tailored to fit each audience. Event dates include:

Be sure to stay for a free lunch on the lawn beginning at 12:00pm after! All abilities are welcome. Parents, you must stay with your child at all times.

Mother Goose Story Time (Thursdays @ 10:30am; for ages birth to 2; location: Story Time Room): Join your wiggly pals for a story time specially made for those who just want to go, go, go! The program is immediately followed by a special play time. Caregivers are encouraged to participate. Event dates include:

Events for Ages 5 to 10 @ Flower Library: events listed below are open to those ages 5 to 10; all abilities are welcome! Parents, you must remain in the library during the event if your child is 10 or younger.

Lego Ping Pong Battle (8/17 @ 4:00pm – 4:45pm; location: Community Room): Attention ages 5 to 10 – use our Lego collection to build a ping pong competition area on a table. After construction is finished you’ll have the chance to test out your creation!

Events for All Ages: events listed below are open to all ages; all abilities are welcome! Parents, you must remain in the library during the event if your child is 10 or younger.

Lunch on the Lawn (Wednesdays @ 12:00pm – 1:00pm; for ages 0 to 18; location: outside on the lawn near the Farmer’s Market): Stop at our table outside on the lawn for a free, nutritious lunch! Available on a first come, first serve basis (we do run out of food, so be prompt if you are able!). The meals are provided by CAPC of Jefferson County and are sponsored by the USDA. Event dates include:

In case of rain, please visit us inside. We’ll still distribute free lunches in the Community Room. Please note that allergies are not accommodated at this time due to the large volume of food produced at CAPC. Meals are for ages 18 and under or 21 and under if the individual is disabled. Teens – you are welcome too!

Final Party (8/2 @ 12:00pm – 1:30pm; for ages 0 to 13; location: Children’s Room): Celebrate your reading success with a pizza party! Enjoy lunch and crafts from 12pm – 12:30pm. At 12:30 attend a special ceremony for all of our readers (this will be held outside if the weather is cooperative). We’ll draw the grand prizes at this time, so be sure you have claimed all of your reading tickets!

Fish Bowl Toss (8/8 @ 10:30am – 11:30am; location: Children’s Room): All ages are welcome to test their luck at our game and earn a “fishy” prize! We plan to hold this event outside at the Farmer’s Market. Should the weather be uncooperative however you will still find us in the Children’s Room!

Soak Ms. Ashley (8/22 @ 10:30am – 11:30am; location: Children’s Room): All ages are welcome to test their aim at a carnival favorite before heading back to school. We plan to hold this event outside at the Farmer’s Market. Should the weather be uncooperative however we will cancel – please watch our Facebook page for a post if you are unsure.

A note from Ms. Ashley: “Use a sponge and HIT ME WITH YOUR BEST SHOT!”

Adults, teens, and tweens—library activities include you too! Here is an option for adults:

Throwbacks with Ashley (8/14 @ 6:00pm – 7:00pm; location: South Reading Room): We’re throwing it back and being kids again! Join us to make boondoggles and friendship bracelets. Anyone having summer camp flashbacks?! Ages 18+ only please! All materials will be supplied for you.

Event for Teens:

Game On with Ms. Ashley (8/10 @ 3:00pm –4:00pm; location: Teen Space): Get your game on with Ms. Ashley! Today we’re challenging each other to a game of Apples to Apples. Let the hilarity ensue! Ages 13 to 18 only, please!
