Values of Volunteering is an initiative conceived by WHS English Teacher Jennifer Chatterton. Earlier this year, Mrs. Chatterton suffered a tragic, personal loss. As a result, she was moved to give back utilizing compassion, kindness and the respect of her students. Mrs. Chatterton presented the idea of group community service to her English classes, requesting they fill out an application. Participating students then spent the month of July volunteering at the SPCA, the NYS Zoo at Thompson Park and at the Watertown Urban Mission. Throughout the month of August, and into the school year, as well, students hope to continue their efforts by offering their services to a variety of regional non-profits. They are eager to welcome new volunteers as they forge new relationships with our community.
